Jr. High Mission Trip

If you're entering the 6th grade or finishing the 8th grade, you're eligible and invited to attend whether you are a member of LHUMC or just a friend.

If you're in grades 9 to 12, you can sparticipate as a Youth Leader.

What

The Jr. High Mission Trip is an annual, summer mission trip for students in grades 6-8.

Students in grades 9 through 12 are invited to participate as Youth Leaders, and are given leadership responsibilities that include:

  • planning the team meetings
  • leading team-building exercises
  • planning our stops on the trip
  • hanging out with the Jr. High Youth

Trip participants join forces with local organizations while on the trip to do mission work which varies from providing companionship in assisted living facilities, cleaning up a facility, or providing a day camp-style Kid's Club for children in the community.

Some of the sites the Jr. High Mission Trip has served in the past include Martin, South Dakota, and Thunder Bay in Ontario, Canada. In 2007, we served in Lake Traverse, Sisseton, South Dakota.

Adults, youth leaders, and participants work together on this mission and are often split into teams once they arrive.

LHUMC teams with YouthWorks!, a Minneapolis-based youth mission organization that partners youth ministry groups with areas in need.

When & Where

See the Communities: Youth (add link when created) section of this Web site for this year's dates, forms, and registration information.

Commitment

The mission trip includes two days of travel, and a five-day work-week, for an overall seven-day trip. We travel in vans and take frequent scenic stops and other fun activities along the way.

The cost of the trip varies thanks to fundraising efforts and service to the LHUMC congregation. Each individual is asked to pay $200 as a base payment.

Other responsibilities for the trip participants include:

  • providing service to LHUMC in the form of fundraisers and service projects
  • attending team meetings for information and team-building exercises
  • meeting with your individual work team prior to the trip

The trip has no maximum capacity — capacity is determined by the site and by YouthWorks! regulations.
