SUMMARY:Backpack Drive for Emerson Village
DESCRIPTION:The Lake Harriet Outreach and Beacon Leadership Teams are sponsoring a backpack drive for the youth and children of families living at Beacon’s Emerson Village. We have pledged to provide 70 backpacks\, with 20 for more high school/middle school aged students and 50 for elementary school students. \nWatch for the display in the gathering space. Just take a tag (or a few tags)\, purchase the type of backpack indicated\, and then return the backpacks by August 16th. \nAlso\, Lake Harriet UMC is providing volunteers to serve food or help with crafts at the Emerson Village Back-to-School event on Thur. Aug. 27th from 1- 4pm\, Lake Harriet volunteers needed from 12 to 5pm\, and may be working in two shifts. DESCRIPTION:March 29\, 2026 – Week 6 – Palm Sunday\nLiturgy of Palms and Passion \nPalm Readings: Matthew 21:1-11\, Psalm 118:1-2\nPassion readings: Isaiah 50:4-9a\, Psalm 31:9-16\, Philippians 2:5-11\, Matthew 26:14-27:66 \nAs Holy week begins\, Peter is no longer front and center\, and so we imagine he is with the rest of the disciples when Jesus enters Jerusalem on a colt. The disciples are confused as they witness crowds shouting hosannas. When they look back on this experience\, they will remember the songs. The singing is surely etched in their memories. As we imagine ourselves in the crowd on this day\, may we remember that they are supposed to be praising Caesar\, but instead they are shouting for the one entering the city on a donkey. Their singing is subversive\, courageous\, and contagious. Their praise shows the ripple effect of public displays of praise. \nOnline worship
