Event Series: Advent 2025

Advent 2025

December 28 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am
Adevnt 2025-Heaven and Nature Sing, 300 Years of Joy to the World

Heaven and Nature Sign! 300 Years of Joy to the World
Advent begins on November 30th. Advent is the four weeks before Christmas. In the church year, Advent is a season of preparation and repentance. Advent focuses on the coming of Christ and of his return. During Advent, we’re anticipating the full realization of something that began at the first Christmas when God came to us in the flesh as Emmanuel. The work of Advent began then, but isn’t yet fully realized.

Each week, we’ll light a candle on the Advent wreath and center on the theme of “Heaven and Nature Sing” from the beloved Christmas carol “Joy to the World”.

Composer Isaac Watt’s interpretation of Psalm 98 invites us to sing a “new song”–and it is a powerful cosmic performance of all creation being renewed and freed. Rather than “joy” being yet another word for “happiness,” we will discover that the depths of joy can be found especially in the midst of suffering, the work of justice, and the presence of compassion–all part of the coming of Jesus to this world and a message the world still so desperately needs.
